Summary If taxpayers' money should not be misused so shall charity for Shaukat Khanum hospital: Asif
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that those who are questioning the Prime Minister over Panama leaks do not have the right to do so as their consciences are shaded.
While addressing National Assembly’s session, Asif said that if taxpayers’ money should not be misused so shall charity for Shaukat Khanum hospital.
The hospital that Imran Khan owns did not publish its balance sheets for three years, he said.
The federal minister said that Shaukat Khanum’s issue did not erupt but was developed by Khan himself. He criticised PTI chief saying that those who he abused during sit-in at D-Chowk included Khurshid Shah who now stands with him.
Family of the Prime Minister is running welfare organizations as well but does not make it public, the Defense Minister said.
Asif pointed out that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is not allotting the ministry pieces of land for two grid stations. The federal minister denounced Imran Khan’s explanation regarding his offshore company that was established in 1980s.
He said that Panama leaks are not the yardstick to know the difference between right and wrong. Offshore companies, whether in Panama, Virgin Islands or New Jersey, all are wrong, he said.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Chairman does not draw any differences between raising funds for his political party and the hospital. He raised questions over around Rs 4 billion that were collected to build houses in flood-hit areas by Imran Khan Foundation.
He asked Khan to explain how those funds were utilized.
The federal minister said that the opposition and the government both the sides have an opportunity today. An opportunity to establish a department that would be conceived in the Parliament and would hold everyone accountable, he added. Khawaja Asif said that country’s political tussles gave way to a third force.
He demanded the opposition to act more responsibly and avoid destroying national institutions. Imran Khan, not anyone else, is the enemy of Shaukat Khanum hospital and his politics, according to Khawaja Asif.
Political parties’ greed for power shall not draw them far enough that it damages the country, he added.
