Summary Any Parliamentarian found to be involved in loan waiver worth Rs 2 million losses his/her seat
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Based on the Terms of References (TORs) related to the commission that probes into the Panama Leaks, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday announced that any Parliamentarian against whom loan waiver of Rs 2 million is proven will have to lose his or her seat, Dunya News.
According to ECP sources, based on the Article 63-1-N of the constitution, if any Parliamentarian is found involved in loan waiver of Rs 2 million taken under his or her own name or that of his or her spouse or children or is unable to return the loan within a period of one year then he or she will be declared unfit for the very seat of the Parliament .
Furthermore, it was also declared that if evidence is found against any member of the Parliament in the report of the investigation commission then action based upon the constitution shall be taken.
Speaker or Chairman Senate shall have to send reference within 30 days if question of ineligibility in regards to the constitution is raised. However, if a reference is not sent within a period of 30 days then the matter gets forwarded to the Election Commission which will make its decision within 90 days.
