ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – National Assembly’s (NA) Standing committee for law and justice on Monday disapproved the Bill to increase the number of judges in the Supreme Court (SC), reported Dunya News.
While debating on the Bill, Chairman of the Standing committee for law and justice Basheer Virk stated that the judges are not fulfilling their actual duty, adding that they only cater to the particular cases that are highlighted in the headlines of newspapers or can be discussed in television talkshows.
He stated that the number of judges in the Supreme Court is quite a lot and should be decreased. Virk said that he received threats in regards to the disapproval of the bill, adding that the committee “will not pass the Bill based on the desires of certain individuals” and that it “will only take actions which can serve for the greater good of the country”.
The committee combined three bills related to amendments in the laws of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and transferred the Bill regarding female harassment to the Human right committee.
