KARACHI (Dunya News) – Anti-polio drive is continuing in Sindh’s capital a day after seven policemen were shot dead in Orangi Town in separate attacks, Dunya News reported Thursday.
Law enforcement agencies (LEA) have vowed to ensure protection of polio workers against miscreants. The martyred personnel were tasked with security of polio workers.
On the other hand, funeral prayers of the martyred personnel were offered Wednesday. Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah, Home Minister Suhail Anwar Siyal, Corps Commander Karachi Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar, Director-General (DG) Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar, Inspector-General (IG) Sindh and other higher-ups were present.
The officials paid salutes to the martyrs after the prayers.

Eight terrorists, riding four motorcycles had attacked police in Orangi Bangla Bazaar killing three personnel and gunned down four others as they came across a police mobile minutes after.
Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack and stated that police were rendering sacrifices for peace in Sindh’s capital.
Home Minister confirmed that all polio workers remained unharmed in the attacks. In an exclusive talk with Dunya News, he vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah summoned a report of the firing incidents from Sindh Police Inspector General (IG).
Rangers Sindh Director General (DG) Major General Bilal Akbar asserted that all polio workers in the city would be provided adequate security while the attackers would be caught soon.
Police IG, AD Khawaja announced Rs 50 lac reward for providing information about the attackers while Rs 20 lac compensation money for each of the bereaved families.
He also promised that two members of each grieving family would be given government jobs.
A targeted operation was launched in Karachi in September 2013 which is led by Rangers. The operation was launched to curb targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism.
Pakistan is one of only two countries where polio remains endemic. Attempts to eradicate it have been badly hit by militant attacks on immunisation teams that have claimed nearly 80 lives since December 2012.
