19 dead, 15 injured as speeding bus hits truck in Faisalabad

Summary Police said that the accident took place due to over speeding of the bus driver.

FAISALABAD (Web Desk) -- At least 19 people were killed and 15 others injured when a speeding passenger bus crashed into a truck in east Faisalabad city on Wednesday morning, Dunya News reported.

The ill-fated bus carrying over 50 people collided with the truck coming from opposite direction at Jhang road area of Faisalabad, a district located in the country’s east Punjab province.



Police said that the accident took place due to over speeding of the bus driver who also got killed in the collision.

The bus was heading toward Layyah district from Lahore when the accident occurred.

The injured people have been shifted to Allied Hospital Faisalabad where several of them are said to be in critical condition.



The accident disrupted traffic for some time but the rescue teams shifted all the injured people to the hospital and moved the bodies from the site after which the road was cleared for traffic, said police.

Most of those injured are from Fatehpur, Lahore and Faisalabad.

Deadly accidents are common on roads across Pakistan due to bad road infrastructure and rampant disregard of traffic laws. Over 9,000 road accidents are reported to the police every year, killing on average around 5,000 people, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
