Punjab govt writes to religious scholars over Women Protection Bill

Summary Punjab government can never pass a bill that goes against the teachings of Islam.

 LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Tuesday has written a letter to the religious scholars pertaining to the Women Protection Bill on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif  assuring to alleviate reservations expressed by them, reported Dunaya News.

The letter states that the Punjab government can never pass a bill that goes against the teachings of Islam; however the government has recognised the fact that any initial step taken by humans has never been the final verdict. It also stated that Punjab government has taken a step towards fulfilling their responsibility with respect to women rights in the province.

The Punjab government has decided to seek proposals from scholars in this regard and that religious scholars should express their reservations if they consider any provision of the act against the teachings of Islam.
