Decision reserved on declaring NAB Chairman accused in NICL scandal
Karachi's Accountability Court reserved judgment on making Chaudhry Qamar Zaman accused in scandal
KARACHI: (Dunya News) – A Karachi accountability court has on Thursday reserved its judgment on declaring National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Chaudhry Qamar Zaman accused in NICL scandal. The decision will be announced on March 17, reported Dunya News.
According to details, the accused in NICL scandal Amin Qasim Dada, Zahoor Ahmad and others have filed a petition before Accountability Court judge Munawwar Sultana to make Chaudhry Qamar Zaman as accused in the case too. The lawyers of the suspects Nisar Tarar maintained before the court that the case was made against his clients for purchasing a land in Korangi Industrial Area but it was purchased with the approval of NICL’s Board of Directors and Chaudhry Qamar Zaman was a member of that board. He demanded therefore that NAB Chairman also be named accused in the case.
Responding to Nisar Tarar’s arguments, NAB Deputy Prosecutor General Syed Amjad Shah said that Accountability Court couldn’t declare NAB Chairman as accused. He added that the reference against suspects was approved by NAB Chairman and therefore the application by the suspects could not be entertained by the court. He requested the court to reject the plea.
After hearing the arguments from both the sides, the judge reserved the judgment till March 17 and also ordered former NICL Chairman Ayaz Khan Niazi to submit his passport before the court for remaining absent from the hearings repeatedly.
