KARACHI (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) mayoral candidate Waseem Akhtar said on Thursday that he will fight to get powers for local government with other parties. He was talking to media after taking oath as union council chairman in Karachi, reported Dunya news.

According to the details, Akhtar said people of Karachi had mandated the MQM to serve the residents of the metropolitan city. “We will extend all our services for the Karachiites after getting power under the Article-148,” he added. He called upon all political parties to set aside politics and serve masses indiscriminately. The mayor-elect said his first responsibility was to ensure cleanliness in the city. “If powers are not given, MQM activists along with other representatives of political parties will jointly run cleanliness campaign.” MQM’s Waseem Akhtar had been nominated by the party to assume the office of mayor. After taking oath as UC chairman, Waseem stated that his priority would be to clean the city and take appropriate measures to ensure that.
