ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – At least 182 suspicious seminaries have been shut down by the Interior Ministry across the country under National Action Plan, Dunya News reported Thursday.

The ministry presented a report today in the National Assembly regarding action taken against seminaries under National Action Plan.

Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed chaired session of the National Assembly.

The ministry stated that at least 190 seminaries have been revealed to be funded by foreign countries. Meanwhile, a list of banned outfits’ operatives is being compiled. More than 2,533 militants were arrested in the last two years while 726 terrorists were freed.

Sindh has the highest number of seminaries closed which is 167 while another 72 were shut for non-registration.

Two seminaries in Punjab and 13 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have been closed.

At least 30 Balochistan seminaries, Punjab’s 147, Sindh six while KP’s seven are funded by foreign powers.

The ministry has claimed to conclude checking of all seminaries in Punjab and the federal capital. 80 percent seminaries in Sindh, KP’s 75 percent and Balochistan’s 60 percent seminaries have been checked by law enforcers.

In a reply, Minister of State Federal Education and Professional Training, Interior and Narcotics Control, Balighur Rehman said that 1,068 insurgents were apprehended in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 55 in Punjab, 897 in Sindh and 193 in Balochistan. In a span of two years, 42 militants were arrested from Islamabad, 206 in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) while 72 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

The report states that the ministry is compiling a list of banned organizations’ operatives. The list will be provided to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), passport and immigration authority, banks and other departments.

The development will help the law enforcement agencies to track funds transfer, location and other details required to nab the culprits.

Moreover, list provided to different departments will keep insurgents from entering sensitive buildings.
