Ruptured water pipelines creates water dearth in Karachi
According to details, 10 crore gallon water has been wasted so far.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – The water pipelines that were burst on Saturday in Karachi have been repaired while 10 crore gallon water has been wasted, creating water scarcity in the metropolis.
According to Managing Director Water Board Misbahud Din Fareed, Karachiites will suffer a scarcity of about 100 million gallon water in coming days.
Water supply to Jamshed Quarter, Lyari, Clifton and Saddar among other neighborhoods of the city would be disrupted, he said.
Meanwhile, a daughter and a mother who were going for an entry test in university fell into a drain due to inundated and muddy roads. The administration has still not taken any measure to clean the area which is further irking the local residents.
Earlier, a water pipeline burst in Karachi’s area Gulshan-e-Iqbal and another near Federal Urdu University area caused flooding on the roads and created a severe traffic jam. Frustrated citizens were stuck in the traffic for several hours due to the rising water level on the roads.
The bursts in pipelines also led to a severe water shortage crisis in the city.
The first burst in the 84 inch wide pipeline occurred at Gulshan-e-Iqbal but was repaired after several hours, but troubles were not over for the citizens as the other one burst late in the night.
The roads of the area were drowned in many feet of water as numerous cars and motorcycles got stranded in the pools of water.
Provincial Minister for Local Government Jam Khan Shoro reached the University road upon receiving information of the problem and examined the burst pipeline.
