KHUSHAB (Web Desk) – In a bid to cover up the administrative negligence, the district administration in Khushab district of Punjab dumped relief goods worth millions of rupees in river Jhelum on Thursday, Dunya News reported.

Commodities including pulses, ghee, rice, milk and water bottles sent for flood affected people were thrown into river.

The aid dispatched by the Government of Punjab was stored in Johar Memorial High School.

Rao Atif Shakeel, Additional Collector Khushab, loaded the items on three trucks last night. One truck got stuck while dumping the goods and the authorities unloaded all the items on riverside.

On the other hand, a citizen filed a complaint against Rao Atif to DG anti-corruption Sargodha. Anti-corruption authorities have launched inquiry to bring the culprits to justice.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority, floods which began in early July this year, have affected 900,000 people in 2,495 villages across Pakistan.

The authority reported in a statement that most of the flood-related deaths were reported in the northwest, where at least 79 people died due to flooding. It says the floods have also killed more than 50 people in the eastern Punjab province.

Rescuers also evacuated more than 800,000 people from the affected areas.

Every year, floods triggered by monsoon rains kill scores of people in Pakistan.
