A Military Police vehicle was attacked by unidentified armed men

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan Rangers on Wednesday has announced Rs 25 lac reward for anyone who gives a tipoff in bid to catch culprits behind attack on Military Police vehicle near Tibet Centre on MA Jinnah Road that claimed lives of two personnel.

Late constable Rashid and lance naik Arshad will be laid to rest today in native areas after funeral prayers were offered yesterday. The funeral prayers were offered at PNS Shifa which were attended by Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Zakaullah, Corps Commander Karachi Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar and other officials.

A case has been registered in Parady Police Station. Police have said that route taken by the attackers has been traced with help of eyewitnesses. Authorities said that two men rode a motorcycle to the attack site and opened fire at the personnel.

While talking to the media, DIG South Dr Jameel had said that attackers opened fire from the rear. He said that four to five 9mm shells were recovered from the crime scene.

PM Nawaz has offered condolences to the families of martyrs and has taken notice of the incident in addition to ordering immediate arrest of the attackers.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcast Pervez Rashid has also expressed sorrow over the incident. He has vowed not to let the attackers get away from the dastardly attack on the lives of the uniformed personnel.

Sindh Home Ministry took notice of the incident while Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah summoned a report from Sindh Police IG. 

On the other hand, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif said that every possible step would be taken to arrest the culprits behind attack on MP.

In a statement, General Sharif said that the purpose of attack on MP is to sabotage the progress made in Operation Zarb-e-Azb. He said that intelligence agencies have been directed to arrest the culprits. The COAS said that such dastardly acts will not hinder the country’s ability to fight terrorism.

The attack came around ten days after three Rangers personnel were martyred while four sustained injuries in an assailment in Ittehad Town area. Officials had suggested the attackers intended to target the mosque during Friday prayers.

The National Assembly (NA) was informed earlier about the number of lives lost in different terrorism related incidents. The report stated that 3,157 LEA personnel, 5,532 citizens were martyred in the last five years.

At least 152 civilian lost their lives in Punjab, 313 in Sindh, 2,422 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1,050 in Balochistan, 61 in Islamabad, 1,470 in FATA, one in Azad Kashmir and 63 civilians were targeted in Gilgit-Baltistan.
