Summary IG Sindh chaired a high-level meeting to discuss Karachi law and order.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Inspector General Sindh (IG) Ghulam Haider Jamali on Monday chaired a high-level meeting pertaining to the law and order situation of Karachi.
During the meeting, overall security situation of the metropolis was taken under discussion. The law enforcers briefed the IG Sindh that as many as 998 suspects have been killed till July 2014 whereas at least 16,583 criminals have been apprehended so far.
Rangers have intensified the operation against criminal elements while conducting various raids throughout the city, IG Sindh said.
Talking about controlling the increasing extortion, the House told that six extortionists were killed while 328 were arrested.
IG Sindh claimed that huge cache of weapons including 633 kg explosives, 64 suicide vests, five improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 447 riffles and 19 light machine guns (LMGs) have been confiscated from the possession of the militants.
He further assured to have ended ‘no go areas’ in Karachi.
Earlier, more than twenty suspects were detained during Rangers’ search operation in Essa Nagri and Purani Sabzi Mandi areas of Karachi.
The paramilitary Rangers launched crackdown on a tip-off. Entry and exit points of the areas were sealed during the operation.
Separately, at least three terrorists were gunned down in Baghdadi. Militants engaged the Rangers as they raided the area.
City Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fida Hussain said that as many as three operatives of Uzair Baloch group were killed. Weapons were recovered from the killed miscreants, Jabbar alias Dada, Abdul Raheen alias Rani and Rizwan alias Rado.
Hussain said that the militants were planning an attack during local body (LB) polls. Killed terrorists were wanted in several cases of extortion, grenade attacks and target killings.
The Rangers as well as the police have been engaged in a three-year long anti-militant and crime operation in metropolis.
