ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is considering to hold previously postponed local body polls in areas in Sindh on December 14 or 15, Dunya News reported.

The final election schedule is likely to be issued after approval of the Chief Election Commissioner on December 14 or 15.

According to details, the ECP sources have told Dunya News that the postponed elections in Sindh including Sanghar are likely to be held on December 14 or 15. The final decision in this regard is expected next week.

The sources said the process of demarcation in 76 Union Councils (UCs) of Sindh is also expected to be completed by December 3.

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had delayed local body polls in 53 Union Councils (UCs), 18 towns, 5 municipal committees a day before second phase of local body election day on Thursday.

A summary had been sent to Chief Election Commissioner, which got approved on Wednesday, regarding the delay of elections in constituencies in which delimitation had become an issue. Supreme Court had earlier granted ECP the discretion to sort out delimitation.

The constituencies in which election will not be held tomorrow will have their elections after 3rd phase of local body polls.

Local body polls in districts other than 14 specified districts will be held according to schedule.

Both Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah had condemned the development.
