Summary Suspects shot dead party's leader Dr. Anwar Laghari and wounded its candidate along with his brother
HYDERABAD (Dunya News) – Armed gunmen on Wednesday night opened indiscriminate fire at people preparing voter ballots in election office of Sindh United Party. The armed suspects shot dead party’s leader Dr. Anwar Laghari and wounded its Qasimabad candidate Abdul-Sami and his brother Waqar alias Sunny. The incident took place in ward 7 of Al-Mustafa Town in Qasimabad area of Hyderabad.
The injured were immediately shifted to Civil hospital for treatment while Laghari’s body will be handed over to the family after a post-mortem.
SECOND PHASE OF LOCAL BODY POLLS
The incident occured as Sindh prepares for the second phase of local government elections in fifteen districts of Sindh which is to be held today (Thursday). Police and army personnel are to designated at sensitive polling stations.
Punjab districts include Sargodha, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Attock, Jhelum, Mianwali, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sheikhupura and Khanewal while in Sindh, polling will be held in Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allayar, Matiari, Dadu, Jamshoro, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Shaheed Benazirabad, Nausharo Feroz, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot and Tharparkar.
A total of over 20 million voters will exercise their right of franchise in the two provinces.
