Army's call for 'good governance' through ISPR inaccurate: Khurshid Shah

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Opposition leader Khurshid Shah on Thursday criticized Army Chief statement regarding good governance and said that releasing the statement through ISPR was not correct.

He was the guest of honour in Karachi’s 11th Book Fair. While talking to media after the ceremony he said that it would have been better if Army Chief had talked about good governance among his soldiers however, issuing the statement through ISPR is inaccurate.

On a question about Imran Khan, he replied that PTI chief is a mature scientist. He said that Imran Khan will not believe even if he himself won the election.

Khurshid Shah said that everyone in the country needs improvement and not just the Sharifs.

He urged all the departments to refine their performance and suggested to develop the education sector as attention toward it is less.

The remarks of opposition leader came after Corps Commanders’ Conference chaired by Army Chief General Raheel Sharif said that there was a need to match governance initiatives with military operations to eliminate militancy from the country.

Military spokesman Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa said that internal and external security was discussed in the meeting, including the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) to uproot militancy. However, General Raheel highlighted the need for "matching complimentary governance initiatives for long term gains of operation and enduring peace."

He also called for reform in the tribal region which is still governed under the colonial era laws.

The meeting also discussed the upcoming visit of General Raheel to the US starting from November 15.
