Despite reduction in the intensity of heat, power cut of 20 hours is underway in the metropolis.
Enraged people took to streets to record their protest. They were of the view that Wapda conducts protracted loadshedding, over billing and recover huge fines to lessen the line losses but do not act in a responsible manner as the street lights are switched on in the morning showing their negligence.
The protesters asked the higher authorities to reprimand their system and officials instead of putting the burden on the public.
Power cuts have worsened in Pakistan in recent years, becoming one of the main sources of discontent in the country. Parts of Pakistan face power cuts of up to 8-10 hours per day, undermining the country s weak economy and increasing hardship for citizens. Anger periodically boils over into violent protests.
Earlier, PM Nawaz also vowed to eradicate power outage by 2018. The premier added that ensuring cheap electricity is government’s top priority. He said that power tariff will be reduced to half. Nawaz stated that the government is devoted to bring back the lights of the entire country.
