Police move plea to NA Secretariat for MNA Shahjehan's detention

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Islamabad police on Wednesday wrote a letter to Speaker National Assembly for the detention of National People’s Party’s (NPP) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Shahjehan Mangrio for assaulting a woman constable who refused to leave her duty place to visit her dwelling in parliamentarians suites.

The letter was dispatched by Inspector General (IG) Islamabad, stating that MNA Shahjehan was accused of thrashing lady constable and disrupting legal proceedings.

The letter further stated that the permission from speaker is required for the arrest of woman MNA, therefore, the concerning body should assist policemen in the matter.

Mangrio allegedly assaulted a woman constable who was performing duties at the entrance. The constable, Afshan said that she was called by the MNA to her room but she had to refuse due to duty.

Resultantly, Afshan added that Mangrio came to the entrance and assaulted her with bare hands. She said that the MNA had succumbed to her influential status at the time and lost the plot.

The constable Afshan filed a plea and stated that she was subjected to violence while performing duty and has asked for an action against Shahjehan Mangrio.

She said that this action of the MNA has affected the sanctity and dignity of the uniform. The constable also demanded justice from senior officials in this regard.

Sources said that Afshan was ordered by the MNA to facilitate a guest but she resorted to assault and curse words as no protocol was given.

Mangrio stayed in suite E-403 at the Parliament Lodges. The MNA was elected in reserved seat from Sukkur.
