RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Hanif Abbasi, head of Rawalpindi Metro Bus Service, on Sunday put the fault of rock falling from the bridge that took a man’s life on the contractor, Dunya News reported.

Talking to the media after funeral prayer of the deceased, Abbasi said the death of the youngster’s life is the result of contractor’s negligence. He said such incidents happen everywhere across the world, adding that a three-member committee has been formed to probe the incident.

He said action will be taken against the one whom the committee holds responsible.

A youngster had died after getting crushed by a rock that fell from an under construction bridge of Rawalpindi Metro Bus service at Murree Road.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has ordered inquiry into the matter and reportedly, a case has been registered under Section 322 against the authority and contractor meaning if the negligence is proven, those responsible will have to pay diyat or ‘the blood money’.

The deceased was the resident of Azad Kashmir identified as Nisar Ahmed. He was critically injured at first but succumbed to injuries while being rushed to the hospital. Ahmed was the sole bread winner of the family and came to Rawalpindi for work.

The people of Rawalpindi have already been complaining before even completion of the project, saying the project could not be completed even after quarter to two years whereas it was supposed to complete in one year. The accidents due to narrowing down of the road have also become a routine matter.

Meanwhile, the family of the victim has filed an application at Cantt Police Station nominating the contractor and Metro Bus Authority. A case has been registered under the Section 322 against the contractor and the authority. If found guilty, those responsible will have to pay diyat or the ‘blood money’.

The incident has raised several questions among the masses especially since this isn’t the first incident of its kind. Prior to this incident, a rock from the Metro Bridge at Chandni Chowk had fallen on a car.
