ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The 64th death anniversary of first Prime Minister of Pakistan Shaheed-e-Millat Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan is being observed today (Friday) with great devotion and respect.
Today is the unfortunate day when in 1951 the first Prime Minister of the country was assassinated during a public meeting at Company Bagh in Rawalpindi which was later named Liaquat Bagh after him.
His role in the creation of Pakistan is regarded as a milestone. He was born in India’s city Karnal and got his law degree from Oxford University.
He returned to the country in 1923 and joined Muslim League and became the secretary general of the party in 1936.
He was a close confidante of Quaid-e-Azam, the founder of Pakistan.
In 1948, he became the nation s guardian as its first Prime Minister after the death of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
He assisted Muhammad Ali Jinnah in campaigning for the creation of a separate state for Indian Muslims.
In the memory of the great leader, seminars, debates, speeches and other condolence events will be held to pay tribute to Shaheed-e-Millat for his services for the nation.
