PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Atleast 46 suspects including a key ringleader belonging to a banned outfit was detained during Special Police Unit (SPU) operation in Peshawar today (Thursday).
Commander Younis was nabbed in intelligence based operation in Firdous market and was not able to resist due to successful strategy of SPU.
A pistol and extra magazine was confiscated from the possession of the suspect. Besides this 45 culprits who included 14 foreigners were arrested and hand grenade was recovered while conducting a search operation in various suburbs.
The suspects were shifted to undisclosed location for interrogation.
Meanwhile, search operation was also held in Kohat whereas the suspects are being closely monitored all over the country.
Security high alert
In wake of Muharram, security is high alert in the country.
The federal government on Tuesday has approved the request of provinces regarding deployment of army in sensitive areas during Muharram-ul-Haram.
All the four provinces wrote a letter to federation, demanding army personnel’s deployment in order to meet any untoward situation during the holy month.
More than 12,000 army soldiers would be appointed in various parts of the country as a quick response force.
The authorities would ensure the security of highly-sensitive areas in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, Multan, Gujranwal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Hangu, Bannu, Kohat, D.I Khan and Chakwal.
On the other hand, the district administration of Quetta has banned pillion riding by imposing Section-144 in an attempt to maintain law and order during Muharram 7 to 10.
Sources said that police personnel have devised a security plan that would hold static deployment at alarming places, patrolling, installation of CCTV cameras and jammers and search operations.
An important session presided over by provincial secretary Akbar Hussain was held in which as many as 32 Frontier Corps (FC) platoons were sought for security. Three army battalions and at least 6,000 police and Levies force officers would perform their duties.
A senior security officer told that interior bazaars in city would be closed from Muharram 5 while an aerial monitoring of the processions would be carried out.
Emergency would be imposed in five hospitals in the metropolis whereas federation has also been approached to ban cellular service on Muharram 9, 10.
