Summary The confiscation of their goods, they said, is a punishment for not paying on time
MULTAN (Dunya News) – Custom officials deprived traders of 2 trucks of ‘duty free’ tires as the latter failed to pay bribe to officials on time on Friday. Traders have begun protesting against custom officials at Kalima Chowk, reported Dunya News.
The traders protested and revealed the details of the time-old practice of bribery with custom officials. According to traders, 2 trucks arrive from Quetta to Faislabad every month. The quota of ‘monthly bribe’ is Rs 0.25 million yet the custom officials had raised the roof to Rs 0.5 million rupees, an amount which could not be paid on time to the officials. The confiscation of their goods, they said, is a punishment for not paying on time.
As per traders, they filed taxes for ‘tax free’ tires yet they could not recover their goods as the tires had been sold off by custom officials. Traders say that Prime Minister should order inquiry into the matter and punish the perpetrators severely.
