The Indus River is once again likely to attain high to exceptionally-high flood levels at Taunsa. Water level continues to surge at Taunsa Barrage in River Sindh, raising fears of a major spill over. A flood warning comes amid a prediction by the flood forecasting division of the metrological department.Due to the heavy showers the areas of Taunsa Tehsil including Jhangi, Rentra, Wahu, Bait Fateh Khan will be affected. Areas of Dera Ghazi Khan including Shadan, Land, Pir Aadil, Kala, Samina, Jhakar, Imam Shah, Kot Chatta and other adjoining low lying areas have submerged.At Guddu barrage, the flow upstream was recorded at 1,050,000 cusecs and downstream at 1,000,000 cusecs. At Sukkur barrage, upstream stood at 1,130,000 cusecs and downstream at 1,100,000 cusecs. At Kotri barrage, upstream was 200,000 and downstream 194,086.Torrents from Wadoor hill have inundated roads, the road link of Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur and Balochistan with Multan and the rest of Punjab remained suspended for the forth consecutive day after the Ghazi Ghat Bridge and a portion of the road were swept away by the floodwater while the National Highway Authority (NHA) could not make alternate arrangements yet. Residents are facing great hardships as petroleum products and food items are getting scarce with each passing moment. But the provincial and the federal governments have failed to take concrete measures to assist the people of Dera Ghazi Khan Division hit by the deadliest floods in the living memory.Failing to get adequate help from district administration and Pakistan army, stranded people have started to move to safe areas on self-help basis.
