SC: Man claiming to be Imam Mahdi completes sentence, requests release
SC demanded jail record of claimant, named Shahbaz Ahmad, and his aides who’ve completed sentence
ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – The man claiming to be, Imam Mahdi, named Shahbaz Ahmad, has on Thursday requested his release before Supreme Court (SC) upon completion of sentence. The court demanded the jail record of Shahbaz Ahmad and his 26 aides, reported Dunya News.
According to details, 3-member bench of SC, headed by Chief Justice (CJ) Anwar Zaheer Jamali, demanded the jail manual record of Shahbaz Ahmad and his 26 aides. The criminals have been in jail for 11 years and claim that by including the holidays, their sentence extends to 18 to 20 years. Chief Justice said that no adult in a right state of mind can make such a claim. He said that the decision will be given after checking the jail manual record.
CJ asked if Shahbaz Ahmad’s medical checkup was done as it was highly possible that he was a mental patient. Prosecutor Punjab told the court that Shahbaz and his 26 aides claimed him to be Imam Mahdi at Faisalabad Interchange in 2006. He told that Shahbaz’s aides threatened people to become his followers and even killed a person in firing. The court adjourned the hearing till Friday.
