ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Former President and co-chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday has felicitated the tripartite political alliance of PPP, ANP and JUI and other political parties that supported the PPP candidate Sahibzada Sanaullah in the by-election to PK-93 in Upper Dir resulting in his resounding win.

Zardari also lauded the women of the constituency who came out of their homes in large numbers to exercise their right to vote defying obscurantist and regressive elements who for decades had been denying them right to vote.

Sahibzada Sanaullah won by a margin of several thousand votes defeating the JI-PTI joint candidate in a straight electoral fight.

The former President said that the credit for the electoral win belonged to many and they all deserved to be congratulated on the occasion.

Spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar while quoting the former President outlined several important lessons of the election results.

First, it vindicated the tripartite political alliance between PPP, ANP and JUI as a political strategy in the province.

Second, the support of PML-N and other parties also to the PPP candidate demonstrated the hollowness of the claims of self styled puritans leading the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa claiming massive public endorsement of their policies.

Third, it showed that the women of Dir have finally un-chained themselves from the shackles of obscurantist elements setting in motion an irreversible process of emancipation.

Fourth, the win in Upper Dir by-election by the PPP is a befitting reply to those whose past time has been to predict gloom and doom for the PPP.

Asif Ali Zardari also felicitated the provincial party president Senator Khanzada Khan, ex MPAs from Dir Zamin Khan and Anwar Khan, Bacha Saleh and divisional and district party office bearers and workers of all political parties that supported the PPP for their efforts in mobilizing the people in Upper Dir to vote for the PPP candidate.

The former President also asked the party leadership in the province to draw appropriate lessons and devise a strategy to enhance political space from the win.
