Summary SC heard Senator Zaffar Shah Jamali's petition seeking approval of MQM resignations.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – While hearing a petition seeking the approval of the Muttahiad Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawmakers’ resignations, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued notices to 97 respondents including Prime Minister, opposition leader, Senate Chairman, NA and Sindh Assembly speakers.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali heard a petition filed by Senator Zaffar Ali Shah.
The petitioner argued that resignations of the MQM lawmakers became affective the day they personally confirmed it in front of the assembly speakers.
He said that any attempt to bring them back to the assemblies would be a non-democratic act.
Senator Zaffar Ali Shah requested the apex court to order approval of resignations and direct the Election Commission to hold by-election on vacant seats.
Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali remarked that petitions pertaining to resignations of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Muttahida Qaumi Movement will be heard together in the next hearing.
He also issued notice to MQM parliamentarians, NA and Sindh Assembly speakers, Senate Chairman, Prime Minister, Election Commission and other respondents in the case.
