Summary Advice handed out is simple; stay in the assembly and negotiate on the parliament floor

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Parliamentarians of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) decided to call quits from National Assembly on Wednesday. Politicians from different parties weighed in on the decision as to why (and why not) MQM should submit their resignations.

Here is what the following leaders had to say:

Mushahidullah Khan, Senator PML-N:
‘There is not a lot of difference between MQM and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as both of them rely on politics of blackmail. The crime rate, extortion and target killings are at a lowest point, is that why MQM is submitting its resignations?’

Asif Husnain, Senator MQM:
“If the government wants that MQM’s problems be addressed then Altaf Hussain’s voice should be unbanned and the case of missing persons should be solved”

Aijaz Dhamra, Senator Pakistan People’s Party:
“MQM should remain in assembly and should continue to practice politics”

Dr Amjad Niazi, Senator PTI:
“If MQM wants to go then it is their own decision, there is not much that PTI can do in the way of stopping them”

Aijaz ul Haq, Senator PML-Zia:
“It is my advice (to MQM) that they should remain in the system as things will get tougher once they are on the outside.”

The advice handed out by parliamentarians is simple; stay in the assembly and negotiate on the parliament floor. MQM members have protested that they have resigned as their reservations have not been heard and addressed.
