LAYYAH (Dunya News) – Raging River Indus still continues to devastate various areas as hundreds of villages and settlements have been struck by severe floods, Dunya News reported on Saturday.
In Layyah’s area Kot Sultan, Khonan Wala Bridge which connect the low-lying areas, swept away in flood torrent. A record increase was witnessed in Chashma Barrage with 5,17,389 cusec water flowing downstream from the reservoir. Water level is also constantly growing in Guddu and Sukkur Barrage.
Gilgit-Skardu road, villages linked to the Skardu airport and hundreds of acres of crops has been inundated due to the rising water level in River Indus. At least 50 families have migrated to safer places under self help.
In Kundian, high level flood in River Indus is being observed, as 37,000 cusec floodwater has been increased in one day whereas in Chashma Barrage 5,20,889 cusec water has been added.
According to Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR), atleast 42 people from Chitral’s area Boni, 1175 from Garam Chashma, Bambot and Darosh, 250 families from Kark, 21,000 individuals from Layyah and 67,411 from Rahim Yar Khan and Sadiqabad have been evacuated to safer places.
Army and Frontier Corps (FC) have distributed 110 ton ration among the flood affectees whereas more than 11000 patients have been provided with medical aid.
Frontier Works Organization while constructing an iron bridge in the area of Reshan has restored land connection with other places whereas maintenance of Chitral’s 12 flood-hit roads continues.
Moreover, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is also sending relief packages to flood-hit areas through C-130 aircrafts on regular basis.
