The pamphlet being spread in Islamabad
The international pan-Islamaic political organization Hizb ut-Tahrir had been banned in Pakistan during Pervez Musharraf regime in 2004. The organization was also reportedly trying to plan an Egypt-style Arab Spring in Pakistan in 2011 according to the intelligence reports. It was revealed in 2011 through a correspondence between the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Punjab police and the federal government of that time that Hizb ut-Tahrir was trying to infiltrate the army and academia with their men.
In May 2011, a brigadier in Pakistan army Ali Khan was also arrested along with four majors because of their ‘suspicious’ activities, hinting at their involvement with the Hizb ut-Tahrir.
