The Dabang lady Ayesha Mumtaz out to fix eateries
If there is one person in the province who every hotel-owner fears today, it is Ayesha Mumtaz
LAHORE: (Web Desk) – The message is quite clear. If you want to run a restaurant or food business in Punjab, you have to provide the best quality of food to the consumers and there is no way you can get away with the punishment for your negligence because the Dabang lady Ayesha Mumtaz is out to fix all the eateries in the province.
Director Operations Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Ayesha Mumtaz is getting praise from all sides (almost) for the last few months as she has been raiding the restaurants and hotels in Lahore without any discrimination on the basis of size, status and reputation of the business or its owner. From Pearl Continental to Avari and from Hardee’s to the famous Mian Jee restaurant on GT Road, everyone is on the hit-list of the Dabang lady. You’re either clean or doomed. There’s no third option.
Talking exclusively to Dunya News as the owners of restaurants protested against her strict adherence to the law, Ayesha Mumtaz said that all she has done is in accordance with the law and that is how she is going to work in the future as well. “If they’re providing substandard food, they can’t get away from punishment or fine. They can do whatever they want to, we will continue our job with the same, in fact better, momentum”, said Mumtaz.
Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif was all praises for Ayesha while chairing a meeting of the Cabinet Committee when he said that he was extremely pleased with the performance of her team and promised her complete support from the government. Ayesha also thanked the CM for his support and said that it wouldn’t have been possible without the free hand given by the government to her. CM also awarded her a shield for her brilliant performance.
Even Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) Dr. Umar Saif seemed enthusiased to be photographed with her.

There is criticism as well. Some say she has damaged the reputation of all the restaurants in the city while others say that her team doesn’t follow the protocols. Some say she doesn’t go out of Lahore while others suspect her of doing it all to earn praise and money for herself. We don’t know what the fact is but one thing is for sure that if PC can be fined, there is hardly anyone left with better connections in the power circles. She might not have followed the protocols but those alleging her of not following the proper procedures first need to check the kitchens of their restaurants.
Cynicism aside, Ayesha Mumtaz has definitely sent shockwaves throughout the hospitality industry. With a few more officers like her, at least the quality of food provided by the restaurants in the country can be ensured.
