ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday has decided to approach Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan to delay schedule of holding local body (LB) elections in Punjab and Sindh.

According to ECP, schedule is needed to be delayed in light of prevailing flood situations in different parts of Punjab. While in Sindh, lack of electoral rules will create problems. The ECP authorities have decided to put the matter before the SC along with the reasons behind.

On the other hand, Sindh government has filed a plea in SC urging holding of LB polls phase-wise.

Earlier, the SC on Thursday had accepted ECP’s plea for hearing regarding holding phase-wise local body (LB) elections in Punjab and Sindh.
Justice Jawwad S Khawaja held hearing of the plea in his chamber.

The SC accepted ECP’s plea after discarding registrar office’s objection. Justice Khawaja issued directives to accept the plea for hearing in the court.

The registrar office had ordered the ECP to approach forum concerned for the matter.
