Electricity shortfall reaches 5500 MW in Pakistan
Currently, electricity generation is 15,500 MW against the demand of 21,000 MW.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Load shedding duration has increased today (Monday) as difference in the supply and demand of power hit 5,500 MW amid ongoing intense heatwave in most parts of the country, Dunya news reported.
Currently, electricity generation is 15,500 MW against the demand of 21,000 MW.
According to sources, power generation could not be increased due to shortage of furnace oil. The power demand is likely to reach 22,000 MW by the evening.
Urban areas are suffering eight hours of power cuts while 16 to 18 hours of load shedding is being carried out in rural areas. Many areas are also facing water shortages due to load shedding.
Angry protestors took to the streets in major cities including Karachi, Sukkur, Multan and Faisalabad to register their protest against prolonged power outages.
The protestors blocked traffic and burnt tyres and also chanted slogans against Wapda and the government and asked for urgent measures to be taken against the unannounced load shedding.
