Summary

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) may withdraw 3 cases including ARY Gold and polo ground references against President Asif Ali Zardari. Earlier, the bureau withdrew the Cotecna case against Zardari. The NAB had directed its lawyers to proceed in this regard. In the ARY Gold reference, President Zardari was accused of facilitating the company in establishing a monopoly over gold imports in Pakistan. He was also accused of receiving a commission as part of the deal allegedly struck during Benazir Bhutto's government. In the polo ground reference, President Zardari was accused of building a polo ground in the Prime Minister's residence from government money during Benazir's government. Legal experts note that if the reference is withdrawn then the Supreme Court decision in the NRO case would automatically stand invalid.
