ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Urban areas are facing eight hours of power cuts whereas rural areas are hit by eleven hours of load shedding as electricity city shortfall has reached 4,200 megawatts in Pakistan on Monday, Dunya News reported.
According to NTDC sources, electricity demand is 13,900 mw against the supply of 9,700 mw.
Authorities say that load shedding duration is increasing gradually due to change in weather and power generation has reduced due to diversion of water supply from major dams to fulfill agricultural needs.
Solving Pakistan s energy crisis was a key campaign pledge for Sharif in the run-up to the 2013 general election, and the shortage is heaping fresh pressure on his government.
