Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Sunday said Pakistan was in contact with Kyrgyz officials to gain access to its citizens and ensure their safe evacuation. He said about 1200 to 1500 Pakistani citizens, most of them students, were in Kyrgyzstan, which is hit with ethnic violence. He said there are unconfirmed reports that 15 Pakistani students were trapped in southern Kyrgyz city of Osh.Qureshi expressed sorrow over the reported death of a Pakistani engineering student in violence in the south of Kyrgyzstan. The student who lost his life is stated to belong to Shorkot. Qureshi said there were no confirmed reports as at present how many Pakistanis were in the troubled area. He said members of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in its recent summit meeting took note of the situation in Kyrgyzstan and expressed concern.
