Summary Voting to be held on April 25 but printing of 390 million ballot papers has become headache for ECP

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has on Monday announced schedule for local body elections in all cantonment boards. The proposed schedule has been submitted in the Supreme Court of Pakistan. ECP told that the local body elections schedule will be formally announced on March 23. However, printing of 390 million ballot papers has become a headache for the ECP.

According to the proposed schedule, nomination papers will be filed from March 29. Scrutiny process will continue from April 2 to April 4. Appeals before the ECP will be filed on 6th of April and will be heard on April 9. Nomination papers will be allowed to be withdrawn till April 10 and final list will be published on April 11.

ECP will issue the notification of the winners of the polls on April 28.

However, the biggest problem facing ECP right now is that of printing the ballot papers. Printing Corporation, Security Printing Corporation and Postal Foundation Press maintain that 110 million ballot papers can be published within 25 days but not 390 million.

ECP has not yet decided about getting the ballot papers printed from private printing press.
