Murder convict Saulat Mirza to be executed on March 19 in Karachi
Saulat Mirza's mercy plea had been rejected by President Mamnoon Hussain.
KARACHI (Web Desk) – An anti-terrorism court in Karachi has issued death warrant for convicted murderer Saulat Mirza on Wednesday, Dunya News reported.
Saulat Mirza was sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court in May 1999 for murdering former managing director of then named Karachi Electric Supply Corporation Shahid Hamid, his driver Ashraf Brohi and guard Khan Akbar in July 1997.
His mercy plea had been rejected by President Mamnoon Hussain but the federal government had postponed his execution.
Executions of convicted terrorists and criminals resumed after the government lifted moratorium on death penalty on December 17, 2014.
So far, more than 20 prisoners have been executed. There are more than 8,000 death row prisoners in the country.
