Nine-Zero raid: MQM announces peaceful protest across country

Summary Rangers opened aerial firing to disperse the protesters which claimed the life of MQM worker Waqas.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Coordination Committee has announced ‘a day of peaceful protest’ across the country against the siege and search operation of Rangers at MQM’s headquarter Nine-Zero today (Wednesday), Dunya News reported.

According to details, the party has urged the transporters and traders to suspend their activities whereas educational institutions and private schools have also faced a shut down across Sindh postponing the examinations and educational process in Jamia Karachi and Federal Urdu University.

Meanwhile, a complete strike is being observed in Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Sukkur, Mirpur Khas, Jamshoro and other cities of Sindh by closing petrol pumps, markets and public transport.

Intermittent firing in some cities has created fear and panic among the people.

A large number of MQM workers chanted slogans against officials and tried to enter the Nine-Zero headquarters after the raid of Rangers.

Rangers tried to stop the protesters on entering the headquarters upon which the enraged protesters attempted to push the Rangers mobile aside retaliating to which Rangers opened aerial firing to disperse the protesters.

Firing during the clash also claimed the life of MQM worker Waqas, who worked at party’s information department.

Moreover, a cameraman of a private channel was also injured during the clash between MQM workers and Rangers.

Earlier, heavy contingent of Rangers besieged the area of Nine-Zero at 5am in the morning and raided the residence of Altaf Hussain and Khursheed Begum Secretariat in MQM headquarters.

Rangers’ spokesman also claimed to have recovered huge cache of weapons, bullet-proof jackets and hundreds of shells during the raid.
