Several injured as farmers, police clash in Vehari

VEHARI (Dunya News) – Several policemen and farmers were injured as a result of a clash between the policemen and the members of farmers’ union on Sunday, Dunya News reported.
The clashes began when the farmers’ union members began boarding buses to travel to Islamabad and the police tried to intercept them using force. This triggered enraged protestors to block Multan Road where they staged a loud protest.
The police used the teargas to disperse the crowd which resulted in violent clash between the policemen and the farmers for at least two hours.
District Police Officer (DPO) Sadiq Ali Dogar oversaw the whole operation in which the police of various police stations participated.
The demonstrators damaged police vehicles by retaliating to the teargas shelling with stones. The vehicles of Station House Officer (SHO) of Thengi Police Station, Rana Muhammad Akran and provincial minister Dr Farrukh Javed’s special squad were also damaged.
The clashes left several farmers injured as well. Several members of the union including District President Advocate Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmed were also arrested.
