ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Today is the last for scrutiny of candidates` nomination papers for the Senate elections, Dunya News reported on Friday.

During the scrutiny process, nomination papers of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Saud Majeed were rejected for tax evasion.

According to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Majeed is tax defaulter of Rs9.5 million.

On the other hand, the ECP rejected all allegations leveled against Raja Zafarul Haq, Pervaiz Rasheed and Gen (retd) Abdul Qayyum and approved their nomination papers.

Professor Sajid’s case is still under consideration as several objections were raised over his nomination papers on Thursday.

In Balochistan, objections were raised over nomination papers of Pasthunkhwa Milli Awami Party candidates Dr Manaf Tareen and National Party’s Dr Yasmin Baloch while papers of BNP member Jahanzeb Jamal Din and Sana Jamali were approved.

Fifteen out of nineteen nomination papers submitted for general seats in the province have been approve so far, the Election Commission reported.

In Peshawar, nomination papers of 17 candidates were scrutinized on Thursday.

Papers of PPP’s Abdul Latif Ansari, Islamuddin Sheikh, MQM’s Mian Attiq and Gulfaraz Khan Khattak and PML’s Syed Zafar Ali Shah are being inspected today.

Final list of candidates will be released on February 28 while the polling will be held on March 5, 2015.

The tenure of 52 members of the Senate is due to expire on March 11, 2015 and election to fill these 52 seats will be held in accordance with clause (3) of Article 224 of Constitution.

According to the Election Commission, the poll for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and the Federal Capital will be held in the Parliament House, Islamabad and the poll in each province will be held in the provincial assembly building.
