Altaf Hussain withdraws decision to quit MQM

Dunya News

He said a 'triangle' is operating under the policy of "kill MQM workers and make money"

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Thursday retracted decision to quit MQM, a couple of hours after he announced to ‘quit’ the party, Dunya News reported.
“Workers, be happy as I’ll continue the journey with you all”, he said in a statement close to midnight.

Earlier, he had announced to disassociate himself from his party from tomorrow (Friday), adding that he will address the party for the last time on Friday, Dunya News reported.

Addressing workers via telephone, Altaf Hussain had said that he is not liked by the ‘establishment’ because he is not from a feudal family.

He said that extrajudicial killings of MQM workers are taking place in Karachi, adding that there could be a reaction if the killings continued like this.

He said he always instructed party workers to be patriots but, he said, workers could lose their temper if the onslaught continues.

Altaf Hussain said that the authorities should make arrests and present the accused before the court but in no way, he said, can they be permitted to kill the accused extra-judicially.

He had said he will disassociate from the party because “some people say that MQM is good but without Altaf Hussain”.

MQM workers and supporters, however, chanted loud slogans in Altaf Hussain’s favour, urging him not to quit.

“Leader, leader… Altaf is our leader” and “we want Altaf” are some of the loud slogans that were chanted.

Altaf Hussain said that Sohail Ahmed was murdered and a cemetery dedicated to martyrs has been made but MQM could still not be ended.

He said a ‘triangle’ is operating under the policy of “kill MQM workers and make money”. MQM chief further added that his struggle is against feudal lords.
