ECP gears up to hold Senate elections in March

Summary Senate chairman Nayyar Hussain Bukhari would retire from the post along with other senators

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday has started its preparations regarding holding of elections for as many as 52 seats of the Senate which are to be held in the first week of March. The schedule for the elections would be issued in the first week of February.

According to the details, famous senators including Senate chairman Nayyar Hussain Bukhari would retire from the post in the Senate.

According to the ECP sources, elections would be held in all provinces for as many as seven general seats, two women’s seats whereas one technocrat and one cleric seats. At least four seats from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and two each seats from Islamabad and minorities would be held elections for.
Reportedly, the nomination papers for the Senate elections have been published.

Others to retire from the seats include, Pervez Rashid, Babar Ghouri, Chaudhry Shujaat and Abdul Ghafoor Haidri. The candidatures of Afrasiab Khattak, Jahangir Badar, Mushahidullah, Zafar Ali Shah, Raja Zafarul Haq, Rehman Malik and Farooq Naik would also end.
