LAHORE (Dunya News) – As a measure against terrorism, Punjab government has drafted a law to scrutinize and monitor tenants and their agreements, the violations of which can carry a prison sentence of up to 1 year and fine of up to Rs 1 lakh or both, Dunya News reported.
The sentences are applicable both on the tenants and the landlords and the law will monitor buildings and hostels given on rentals.
As the law comes into effect, the landlords will now have to get their properties registered with the local police stations before letting them.
The identification of the tenants will also be mandatory along with the guarantee of at least two individuals.
It will also be mandatory to get the lease agreement registered with the notary public or the oath commissioner.
The new law suggests that the tenants will have to mention the number of their children who are above the age of 14.
The tenants will be registered with the local police station.
No one other than the registered student can stay in the student hostels and it will be crime to have any weapon or explosives in vicinity of the hostel.
The police station will be responsible to maintain all the records of the tenants and of maintaining a computerized database so that the record is accessible whenever required.
Violating the agreement or this law will be a non-bailable offense and the case will be presented in front of the judicial magistrate.
