Summary
A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday dismissed Rehman Maliks application to transfer cases against him to Islamabad High Court. Maliks counsel, Chaudhry Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, submitted an application which said Islamabad High Court (IHC) had been established so cases against the petitioner should be transferred to it because the alleged offence was committed in the IHC territory and the investigation agency headquarters was also located there as well as the petitioner was a resident of Islamabad. However, the court, after hearing the arguments, dismissed the application observing that the Islamabad High Court was still not operational and the LHC had jurisdiction to hear the cases. The division bench comprising LHC Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif and Justice Waqar Hassan Mir adjourned the hearing till May 6. The LHC had suspended conviction by an accountability court and granted bail to Rehman Malik on an appeal in two references.
