Pakistan asks India to extradite Kasab, Ansari

Summary

Pakistan asked Delhi the extradition of Ajmal Kasab and Faheem Ansari to Pakistan for recording his statement in the trial of the suspects here while the Indian High Commission has been given six dossiers in this regard too. Sources said that Pakistan demanded more details regarding both the accused too. Meanwhile, the prosecution has requested the Lahore High Court to declare Kasab as a proclaimed offender. If the court accepts the prosecutions request, Kasab would become part of trial by the Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court. The anti-terrorism court would resume hearing of the case from May 8 after a three-week adjournment. Kasabs trial by a special Indian court has been completed and the verdict is expected on May 3. His statement in the Indian court is not valid in Pakistani courts because of non-conformity with provisions of Qanun-i-Shahadat. One of Indias main demands for resumption of the Composite Dialogue, suspended in the aftermath of Mumbai attacks, is the action against Hafiz Saeed. The three dossiers pertained to the prosecution of Mumbai attack suspects; threats directed against India allegedly from extremist groups based in Pakistan; and fugitives from Indian law suspected to be in Pakistan.
