Top lawyers Akram Sheikh and Aitzaz Ahsan come face to face today regarding the passage of 18th amendment and role of judiciary, Dunya News reported today. Akram told the reporters that the judiciary is entitled to both annul and amend the Constitution. Meanwhile, Aitzaz Ahsan said that the Supreme Court could not scrap the 18th amendment. Talking to media outside the Parliament, he said he respects Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry more than the President, the PM, adding had CJP Chaudhry not denied compliance, the history would have been the other way round. The former SCB president said the apex court may at maximum propose an amendment, as it is up to the court to give suggestions, but, it cannot on its own, rise to amend the Constitution. Ahsan said the Article-238, 239 cannot be challenged in any court, whatsoever; neither can the SCs hearing power be challenged. Judiciary and the Parliament should work in sync, he added.Justice Tariq Mehmood said that if public view is taken at all points than elections would be held after every short interval.
