Death toll mounts to 55 as another child dies in famine-struck Thar
56 children are still admitted at Mithi Hospital whereas inhabitants have started to migrate.
THAR (Dunya News) – Another malnourished child in Thar lost battle against famine in civil hospital Mithi, mounting the death toll to 55 in 44 days on Thursday.
56 children are still admitted at Mithi Hospital whereas inhabitants of various areas of Chachru and Dhali have started to migrate.
Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has said that the hospital in the area is modern and that the cause of children’s deaths is complications during pregnancy and not malnutrition.
The Sindh CM expressed these views during the cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
The cabinet meeting discussed the situation of famine-struck Thar and the deaths of the children.
Talking about the Thar situation to the media, the CM said that a seven-member committee has been formed to review the Thar situation which not only includes Provincial Minister but journalists also.
He said that as many as 625 lady-health workers would be given midwifery training to overcome the complications during pregnancy.
CM Shah also distributed financial aid checks among the famine affectees.
While criticising the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Shah said that the MQM had the Ministry of Health for around 20 years but their Minister never visited Tharparkar.
The cabinet meeting was attended by 18 ministers and three advisers.
