The AJK judicial crisis exacerbated in wake of the reference filed by the President Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Raja Zulqurnain Khan against two judges namely Justice Syed Mansoor-ul-Hassan Gilani and Chief Justice High Court Mustafa Mughal in the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court (SCAJK). The reference against the judges was filed on the advice of the PM in the regions Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) under section 42-E of the AJKs interim constitution. The President AJK in his reference in SJC said that two judges, playing havoc with interim constitution, formed new SJC. Following the reference, the SJC has formed a three-member bench comprising Chief Justice AJK Mohammed Riaz Akhter Chaudhry, SC judge Justice Khwaja Shahdad and Judge High Court Justice Mohammed Younis Tahir, accepting the reference for hearing. Meanwhile, the accused Justice Gilani and CJ High Court Mustafa Mughal have been barred from working, and ordered to present before SCAJK on April 22.
