ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Main accused of the infamous Hajj Corruption Case Rao Shakeel has been released on bail and he will be able to celebrate this Eid at home. Rao Shakeel, former Director Hajj, was arrested in 2010 from Islamabad and had been behind the bars since then. He was accused of depriving the national treasure of billions of rupees, renting 87 buildings in Makkah and Medina on high rates and making more assets than the means.

In March 2013, Islamabad High Court had rejected Rao Shakeel’s bail request. On September 22, Supreme Court’s 3-member bench, headed by Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, granted the bail against Rs. 10 million. Rao Shakeel has been released today.

However, apex court has declared that his absence on two consecutive hearings from Trial Court will cause cancellation of the bail.
