Local Transporters and the Rawalpindi district government administration reached on consensus to reduce transport fares. The transporters have agreed to reduce the transport fares by Rs 2 - Rs 3. The original demand of the protesters was a fare reduction of Rs 7.According to the new fares a passenger traveling 4km to 8km will now be charged Rs 15 instead of Rs 18. For distance between 8km to 14km, traveler would be charged Rs 20 instead of Rs 22 and for distance between 14km to 22km fare has been reduced to Rs 23 instead of Rs 25, any passenger traveling a distance of greater than 22km would cost Rs 25.Earlier during the week the chief commissioner of Islamabad suspended the new fare list after violent clashes took place between protesters and police just outside of Islamabad.Several representatives of the transports and Members of National Assembly were present during the meeting which lasted for two hours. The transporters also informed their issues and concern to the government representatives.
